Science

science1All boys must study Science in years 10 and 11.   The yr 10 science course is based on short modules.   At the end of each module you sit an exam.   The results of each exam will count towards your final GCSE at the end of the year.

The yr 11 course is called Additional Science, you will study six modules which will be examined at the end of the year.

The Science courses also include coursework.   During the two years you will carry out ISA’s.  These are Independent Student Activities which are carried out and then tested in class.  These marks count towards your final grades.

You will be awarded a GCSE grade at the end of Yr 10 and another at the end of Yr 11.

Horticulture

Through the Science department pupils have an opportunity to study for NVQ Levels 1 and 2 in Horticulture.  The course involves preparation of ground for planting, growing plants from seed, transplanting techniques and some basic groundwork operations.  Assessment is made when pupils have achieved the required standard for a particular operation.

Your grades depend on two things:

Module Tests    75%

Coursework     25%

There are two levels of exam.   The foundation exam will give you grades from C to G.   The higher exam will give you grades from A* to C.   A decision on which level you are entered for will be taken by your teacher.
