Batley Business and Enterprise College makes the news with help from the BBC

On Wednesday 12th March 18 pupils from Batley Business and Enterprise College   joined up with 250 schools around the UK who are making news this March.   

The pupils took part in BBC News School Report, a BBC project to engage 11-14-year-olds in the news.

Ex-teacher and BBC News presenter, Huw Edwards, has been lending his support to the project. Former Teacher and BBC Presenter and Students from BBEC

He said: "Having been a teacher and run many journalism workshops in schools, I've seen how much fun it can be and how much can be learnt when there are real deadlines, real audiences and real standards to meet."

Over the past few months the students in Key Stage 3 have been working hard, training to be top BBEC Students journalists, carrying out interviews and producing reports.

Miss Healey commented ‘The students have gained a new found respect for radio presenters, especially news presenters as they didn’t realise just how much time and effort went into every minute’. Jordan in Year 8, who was the lead technician, commented, ‘It was good because we were allowed to use a lot of technical stuff.  I didn’t realise how hard it was’.

Bradford CLC and Bradford Community Broadcasting were crucial partners in making this project a success.  They lent their equipment and the expertise of presenter John Gill.BBEC Students and the MP of the area

Carl Wheatley Assistant Editor of BBC Radio Leeds led workshops in questioning techniques and showed the students how to hold a successful press conference with Mike Wood MP for Batley and Spen.

Students also interviewed Deputy Head Mr Johnson, PC Metcalfe and Miss Whitely of Batley Business and Enterprise College.
